These first hand observations are well over a week old but I thought they were interesting. Primarily the one of North Captiva at high tide and the Marina at full moon. As always please ignore the stuffed cat. It is an unfunny private joke but the birds that morning were amazing.

Sunny blue sky today, but cold and windy (well, 68 does feel cold).  Check-in went very smoothly.  In fact, a staff member greeted us at the steps outside, asked our name, walked in with us, and told the receptionist our name and our unit number, from the list he had in his hand.  The receptionist greeted us very warmly by name, and was very efficient.  We were about 1 1/2 hours early, but our unit was ready, and she gave us our keys and we were off.

We think the TV in the master bedroom may be new, but all the other furnishings seem to be the same.  I agree with Reebop:  the furnishings and linens in the PH certainly are not plush.  I asked Nancy in the Interval Office specifically about the table in the lanai and the coffee table in the living room, which are both damaged.  She said new lanai tables have been ordered (it's about time), but she doesn't know when they are arriving.  The coffee tables will be replaced when the couches are replaced.

I called Maintenance and Housekeeping about 4 items, and, as always, they came promptly.

Even though it was chilly, there were lots of people at all the pools.  We didn't see anyone playing golf late afternoon.  There are a dozen boats in the harbor, which seems quite empty compared to previous years.

Look forward to our usual game of tennis in the morning.

I'm very impressed by the reception you and your family received at registration.  What a teriffic improvement!

It seems that a possible decline in hotel room occupancy due to the world's economic turmoil may be impacting revenue at the Resort. As a consequence Time Share owners are finally being treated as real, if not preferred customers.  But why not, the incremental cost of a TS owner at the resort is almost zero because amenity fees cover many of the Resorts implied costs and HGVC and our annual admin fees cover most of the remainder.

It would be interesting to know the relative occupancy numbers for the resort hotel rooms and the TS properties.

So, CaptivaBound, we are all really jealous, out here in cold land!  Have a great time and enjoy your time to the fullest!  How about a report on the "snook under lights" situation at the T-dock?  DonFromSLC

As they say, what a difference a day can make.  You all have every reason to be jealous.  Today was absolutely picture perfect Captiva weather.  No wind.  Warm and sunny.  Busy at the pools.  Virtually every spot in the marina now taken.  Haven't been out to the T-Dock to check the snooks in the lights, but a couple friends were fishing this afternoon on the rocks between Lands End and Seabreeze, and there were people fishing from boats nearby.  The beach was quite busy.

At 5pm the golf course was empty.  No sign of the seafood buffet at the beach or music at the beach, as they had last year when we were here.  Maybe it's the wrong day or they aren't doing it this year.

Our next door neighbor told us they went to Holy Smokes last night for dinner.  They ate inside, and had hamburgers.  They said the hamburgers were really good.  They also said they had heard that Chadwick's was going to reopen as Chad's.

We noticed there are 6 houses or lots for sale between Sunset Beach and the PBC tennis courts.  The very large house next to Sunset Beach is coming along, but still a long way from complete.

We just got back from 5 nights at South Beach Miami.  One warm day, the rest had highs of 70 to 72.  Very chilly for South Florida.  It seems that it's been a cool season so far.  The landmark Deco hotels at SoBe (Ritz, Sagamore, Delano, Richmond we're empty.   The only hotel with reasonable occupancy was the Loews where we stayed.  We met some friends who were already their and spent one "happy hour" (4:30 to 9:30 pm) lobby hopping, having a glass of wine or a drink at the lobby bar or outside bar and moving on to the hotel next door.  The most crowded was 5 other people than ourselves.  Amazing.  There was only one couple besides our group of 4 at the Delano at the bar.  It was 9:00 pm.  Had a 10 buck rum runner that was superb.  Two rums and brandy and no box mix.  Sorry about the Miami talk.  It seems the economy has had its impact.

I wish there was a web site for plantation house where we could vote on the lanai tables purchased.

Thanks for the photos, they look great!  Those homes on North Captiva look like they are asking for trouble.  I wonder where they get their insurance...

CaptivaBound we are so glad you are having fun. Darn right I'm jealous. I can't help noticing your posting are all after 10pm. After sunrise 10 pm is my favorite time to walk around the resort. I usually do the marina first and finish up with a walk from Sunset Beach back to the Cottages. The place is almost empty. Almost as if it was my private paradise and it has a magical feel that you don't get when the sun comes up. If the moon is bright as it was three weeks ago it is beautiful and if not the stars dominate the sky. Of course having the recycled water sprinklers going off in your face somewhat dims the magic but it is still a very special time.
I think the Sunset Beach event on Saturday has been moved up front to the Chadwick Square area. They are calling it " Don't Stop the Carnival". Both Saturdays we were there the event was moved inside because of the cold and wind. Not sure if it is a success. At our board meeting it was mentioned that they will try going for a pay as you consume system rather than the flat out $30 for adults and $14 for kids. A promo is below as well as a poor shot of young snook under the T-Dock from 3 weeks ago for Don.

Whk3rd, thanks for the tip on entertainment up at Chadwick's Square.  Will ask at front desk if it's happening.  In our packet, we didn't have the brochure we've had in the past about resort activities.  I don't know whether that was an oversight or a cost savings.

On Saturday, an auction was held at the former CW's site.  We went during the 1/2 Preview, but found the items were of little interest to us....oriental rugs, vases, statues, paintings, jewelry.  The woman at the jewelry counter was telling customers that they had no documentation on any of the jewelry "because inventory moves so quickly."  Our neighbors said they stayed for 3 hours.  They didn't buy anything, but they were enjoying watching the items being sold.  They said items were being sold for a fraction of the value, at least the value stated by the auctioneer.

The Resort activities brochure should be available for TS owners at Harry's office.
