How about a new topic! We now Know Doc Ford's is moving to the old Chadwick's location in Chadwick's Square North. Here's a place for updates.

First  update. Back in mid December I was asked to snoop. (Never a problem with me. ) Found out from some real estate folks outside of the resort that the SSIR location was a go, and would be announced in January. We scooped everyone when it was announced on Han's site.

As I understand it. Doc Ford's will open this summer at Chadwick's Square North, this is the north side of the road back in the corner for folk that don't remember where the old Chadwick's was located. Doc Ford's on Rabbit Rd. will not be moving for a few years. At some time in  the future Doc Ford's on Rabbit Rd location will move to a newly constructed restaurant near the corner of Tarpon Bay Rd and Periwinkle Way.

Yesterday a strolled into the future site. Progress could only be described as exploratory demolition, ie.. knocking holes in wall to see what's behind them, finding water lines, see which way the trusses go, etc.... Looks like they are still in the design stage.

Thanks for the update Glenn. Just to be sure, is this the old Holy Smokes location? And any chance you can get them done by May before I get down there?

Always love snoops!  Glenn, have you heard whether that whole area will be Doc Ford's?  Use to be CW's, the Porterhouse, and Chadwicks.

Don, you'll still be driving to the old location.  We all know what a "summer opening" means in Florida....unfortunately.  I watched the painfully slow progress on the elevator at Plantation House last Feb/Mar.  Still, it will be absolutely terrific to have Doc Ford's at the resort.  Some of the other Captiva restaurants are going to take a hit.

CW's, at this time, is still a room for the conference center. It looks like the Chadwicks and Porter House spaces will be combined.

Comment about Captiva restaurants: Competition is good and competition has declined further with the Green Flash folks buying the Mucky Duck. That leaves only the Sunshine Cafe and the Bubble Room as independent . (At least on Captiva ) Assume you all know that Keylime, Otters, Cantina, and Latte Da are owed buy the same gal.

Sorry. I'm still confused. The article I read said Holy Smokes was closing and Doc's was going in there. Is that not the case?

You are correct. Holy Smokes is closed and Doc Ford's will move into that space. Us old timers remember Holy Smokes as The Porter House steak house before Charlie. Chadwicks was immediately to the left of the Porter House in the corner.

Glenn, I thought at one time she owned the Sunshine Cafe too?

Do Sanibel/Captiva seem busy?  Sunday's travel section in MN featured Sanibel nature, but also highlighted the Mucky Duck and Bubble Room.  It's gray and mid-20's here today.  Can't wait till next week!

Some kind of Youth Education conference on resort. Occupancy is high, but these folks are in meetings all day so beach is not crowded. Restaurants however are packed at night. Have no idea what north end is like because I haven't been north of the Beach Villas once this trip.

I stand corrected, Sandy does own the Sunshine Cafe.

It's so Florida.  Initial announcement said opening early summer.  Now mid-August.  Will be great to have it a trolley ride away.  I can imagine there will be lots of families in their golf carts too, and bikes during the daylight hours.  So delighted the resort landed Doc Ford's.  One of their best moves.

Hope someone picks up on the newer trend of self-serve frozen yogurt and toppings.  Would be ideal in Captiva.  The place near Bailey's on Sanibel misses the boat.
